Chris Rock‘s Mom, Rose Rock, is the latest name to sound off on the Oscars slap seen around the world.
As widely reported, at the 94th Annual Academy Awards, Will Smith hit the stage and then struck comedian Chris on the live broadcast after the latter threw an awkward hair jab at his wife Jada Pinkett Smith (who suffers from alopecia).
The aftermath has dominated the headlines; indeed there have been apologies, a voluntary resignation, and Will being banned from attending the Oscars for ten years. And just yesterday (April 23), the ‘King Richard’ actor was spotted in India where he is reportedly seeking the guidance of a renowned spiritual guru.
With the world at large still in deep debate about the slap, Rose Rock is the latest to weigh in.

Speaking with WIS News in South Carolina, the Mom of 10 was asked for her views on what went down. Calmly, she responded:
“When Will slapped Chris, he slapped all of us. But he really slapped me.”
When probed about her reasons for such sentiments, the Rock matriarch continued:
“Because when you hurt my child you hurt me”
Asked what she would say to Smith should she be given the opportunity, Mrs. Rock replied:
“I have no idea what I would say other than ‘What were you thinking? Because you did a slap, but so many things could have happened from that. Chris could have stepped back and fallen. You really could have gotten taken out in handcuffs. You didn’t think. You reacted to your wife giving you the side-eye and you went up and made her day because she was bowled over laughing when it happened.”
Expressing her feelings in the aftermath watching from home, she said:
“You can’t do anything. I couldn’t reach out to him. And that’s a hard thing for a mother. No matter how old they are. They are still your babies.”
When quizzed about the Oscars banning Smith from attending for 10 years, the 77-year-old quipped:
“What does that mean? He doesn’t even go every year. They boycotted the year they weren’t even invited. Oh no [it was not a true punishment].”
Interestingly, Mrs. Rock said she didn’t believe there would be any value taking away Smith’s Best Actor honor.
